And so it begins another micro-email. Are you seeing a trend here? This week it is
because they are updating the myldsmail.net system and I had to spend lots of time
jumping through cyber-hoops in order to get the updated version of myldsmail.net, which apparently is mandatory because it is SUCH an amazing system. SO amazing I can't live without it, I guess. If they had given me a choice I would have said "Give me an hour to write a real email instead!" but they didn't.
We have been getting member referrals like crazy for some reason. We went by a member's house to use their microwave, and ended up chatting with her about some of the Young Women we are working with (she's one of the advisors). Before we left she said we should go knock on her neighbor's door. Turns out this young man comes from a difficult background but has turned out amazingly well in spite of it. He still lives at home and his family is very opposed to religion. We knocked on his door; he opened right up and we were able to set up an appointment on the spot. After we left he talked to his mom, who said we couldn't have the appointment at his house because there was a game on that night (the Jets and the Colts, whoever they are). So he took the initiative to call this member we had just talked with, and asked her if he could meet with us at her house. Amazing, right? The appointment went really well. We are so excited!
I love this ward! I love the area. Transfers aren't happening in two weeks, and I'm
never leaving, and I'm never going home. And I'm not in denial. Not at all.
Love,
Sister Monson

This was an exciting week.
There's a less-active member of the ward that lives in, well, not the most clean of
conditions. This was the third time we have left her apartment with bugs on us. The first and second times they were definitely bedbugs and we got rid of them right away. This time we're not sure if they were bedbug babies or something else. But I don't think we'll be going to visit that member anymore. (There are several other reasons besides the bedbugs.)
We have one investigator who has the potential to progress toward baptism. She and her son have been investigating about two years. For her, the only real hangup is just getting to church consistently. This week we taught them about how obedience brings blessings. I wrote D&C 82:10 on a piece of paper and told them to a) hang it on their wall where they could see it every day, and b) come to church. Sometimes I wonder if I'm overbearing. Maybe I am. But some people need it. Not everyone, but some.
We're working with several less-actives, trying to get them to come back, and also
working to get to know the Young Women better since several of the people we consistently work with are in that age group. Tonight we get to go to New Beginnings. I can't wait! This ward also really likes for us to come to Enrichment, which we gladly do. I love the ward!
And my time is up. Sorry this is another short one. Love to everyone,
Sister Monson

Hey Mom and Dad and everyone else-
It's been another great week. I spent most of my hour messing around with pictures, so
this will be very short. Trumbull is amazing! Getting lots of member referrals (and
really GOOD ones), and seeing some miracles happen with less-actives and part-member
families. And it's cold. What else can I say? I sure love Trumbull.
And the moral of the story is...the Church is still true! Don't go inactive, please.
Love,
Sister Monson

Remember that one time I told my family the winter weather here isn't that much
different from winter weather in Utah? Well, I lied. This week I learned a new concept: WIND CHILL. Oh yes, indeed. This means that the temperature may be listed as 20 degrees but 40 mph winds make it feel more like 20 below. Or something to that effect. Start getting excited, Mike and Andrea, Minneapolis will be a wind chill party!! I will come and visit you there, but only if we stay indoors the entire time.
We picked a bad day to try taking the bus and walking around Shelton. The wind chill was really bad that day, and apparently it gets colder in Shelton because it's farther away from the coast. Luckily there was a Dunkin Donuts on the way to our appointment we got hot chocolate and carried it with us there to stay warm. (Dunkin Donuts is EVERYWHERE here. You can find a Dunkin Donuts almost more easily than a McDonalds. People really go there for the coffee, not the donuts. But they also happen to have very good hot chocolate.) That evening I noticed on my face what I thought was sunburn, but actually turned out to be windburn. I didn't know there was such a thing.
This weekend there was an enormous blizzard. The snow is different here--more grainy and powdery. Almost like sand. It's really weird.
I've been working at, for most of my mission, becoming more bold. I've also tried to
change the way I communicate, to talk less and say more get more to the point and
straightforward. I've been blessed with some bold moments this week which was really
exciting.
Trumbull is picking up the area book is a gold mine, the ward is getting more excited and referrals are practically falling out of the sky. I keep looking at my planner for next week because it makes me excited. I haven't had this many scheduled appointments since the Windsor days. Life is good!
Last night we had a dinner appointment with a family that has three young kids. The
oldest is close to Matthew's age and reminds me a lot of him. Here are a few quotes:
Monson: "Don't you want to eat your vegetables?"
A.: "Well, some of these noodles are whole wheat."
"What if glass was made out of bread?"
"What if your hair was made out of metal?"
"What if your house was made out of paper?"
"What if the noodles were made out of wood?"
"What if spaghetti was made out of candy?"
etc. etc.
Younger sister chimes in with: "What if spaghetti was made out of noodles?"
Missions are so random. I love it.

P.S. If any of my old roommates out there are reading this, does ANYONE have Virginia's address? ANYBODY...all my letters keep getting sent back to me.
